PODCAST / SONIC BRANDING

Verbrechen von nebenan:
the intro, Indian style.

For Philipp Fleiter's German true crime podcast “Verbrechen von nebenan” (“Crimes next door”), we turned the intro music into an Indian version in 2026. Philipp spent the summer in India himself and produced four special episodes with cases from there, opening with this intro. The commission came directly from Philipp, music and mixing were ours.

The challenge

Sound new,
be recognised instantly.

A podcast intro is the first thing listeners hear every week. With a podcast of this size, a great many people know it. For the four special episodes Philipp recorded in India, the intro still had to sound different without losing what makes it recognisable.

So the task was a translation: the same melody, the same tension, but with the sounds and atmosphere of India.

Our part

From the original
to the Indian version.

Directly with Philipp, in three steps:

01

The original as the basis

The starting point was the podcast's existing intro. Melody and character had to stay.

02

Directions to listen to

We presented several directions, including a version with bansuri flute, a sitar solo and a dramatic Bollywood thriller. That made it easy to decide early how Indian the intro should sound.

03

Final version and mix

We developed the chosen direction and mixed it, matched to the voice that comes in right after.
