CI SONIC LOGO — Finance

DWS Rebrand —
Sonic Branding for a Global Financial Brand.

What does one of the world's largest asset managers sound like after a complete rebrand? That's the question we answered together with DWS — Deutsche Bank's investment subsidiary managing over €850 billion in assets. The result: a sound logo that communicates authority and forward-looking confidence in under three seconds.

The Challenge

When a financial brand reinvents itself —
and needs to sound the part.

In 2018, Deutsche Bank took DWS public. What followed was far more than a new logo. The entire brand identity was reimagined — colour, typography, imagery, and tone. And that new tone needed to be literally audible.

The challenge in sonic branding for financial services lies in a precise balance: an acoustic identity for a global asset manager must simultaneously signal stability and ambition. Too conservative — and the brand feels dated. Too bold — and institutional investors lose confidence. DWS was standing exactly at that crossroads.

The additional requirement was to develop an Audio CI that works globally — on German financial news broadcasts, international investor presentations, digital platforms and broadcast environments alike. One sound logo for every context, without ever sounding generic.

Our Creative Process

Strategy before sound.
Always.

Before a single note was composed, we conducted a thorough brand audit. We analysed DWS's new brand strategy, the visual redesign, and the competitive landscape among Europe's major asset managers. The question wasn't “How should this sound?” — it was “What must this sound trigger in an investor?”

01

Audio CI Strategy

Defining the acoustic brand personality: which values does DWS stand for — and how do they sound? We developed a sonic briefing that served as the compass for every production decision.

02

Concept & Composition

From the briefing, we developed three clearly differentiated sonic directions — from clean-digital to warm-orchestral. Each with its own character, each a valid interpretation of the DWS brand. The decision was clear.

03

Sound Logo Production

The final sound logo was produced to studio quality: precisely mixed, delivered in all technical variants (stereo, mono, broadcast, digital) and in multiple lengths for different usage contexts.

04

Implementation Consulting

We guided DWS through implementation — from technical specifications for broadcast to recommendations for digital channels and internal communications.

What makes the DWS sound logo acoustically distinctive: we worked with a characteristic interval that communicates clarity and resolve — none of the vague ambiguity so prevalent in the finance sector. A sound that takes a stance. Combined with a texture that evokes both modern technology and human expertise. That is sonic branding at the level of the world's most demanding brands.

The Result

A sound logo that builds
trust in seconds.

The finished DWS sound logo is not a melody — it is an acoustic statement. Precise in length, unambiguous in effect. It opens brand films, closes investor presentations and marks DWS at every touchpoint as what the brand has set out to be since the rebrand: confident, clear and global.

The sound logo was integrated across all relevant communication formats — from TV productions to digital investor platforms and internal conference formats. It performs just as powerfully in its shortest variation as in the extended brand music version for image films.

"The DWS project showed us how precise acoustic brand leadership in the finance sector must be. Not a single sound was left to chance — every element was strategically justified. That is the difference between making music and making brands heard."

FAQ

Questions about Sonic Branding
in Financial Services.

A professional sound logo for the financial sector starts at approximately €8,000–15,000. The exact scope depends on the number of adaptations required (stereo, mono, broadcast, digital, various lengths), the strategic groundwork (brand audit, sonic briefing), and the complexity of production. A complete sonic branding package including audio CI guidelines and implementation consulting typically ranges from €20,000 to €60,000. Contact us for a tailored quote.

In the financial sector, purchase decisions are driven more by trust and emotional security than in almost any other industry. Research shows that acoustic stimuli build trust faster than visual ones — the brain processes sound emotionally and immediately. A consistent sound logo strengthens brand recognition across all touchpoints (TV, app, presentations, telephone) and positions the brand as authoritative and reliable before a single word is spoken. DWS was one of the first global asset managers to invest in its own sonic branding.

A focused sound logo project — from briefing to delivery — typically takes 5–7 weeks. A full sonic branding programme including audio CI strategy, all adaptations, brand guidelines and implementation consulting realistically requires 10–14 weeks. We adapt the schedule to your internal approval processes and compliance requirements. For time-critical rebrands, we have also delivered within shorter timeframes.
