FOOD & BEVERAGE / SOCIAL & SPOTIFY

Four brands, one ear:
spots for Nestlé.

In 2019 we mixed spots for NESCAFÉ, THOMY, Cailler and HENNIEZ. They were produced on behalf of an agency and ran across the DACH region on social media, online advertising and Spotify, each in the language of its market.

The challenge

Four tonalities,
one standard.

Every brand sounds different. The NESCAFÉ Gold spot lives on a calm narrator talking about the people who come to matter. THOMY tells a short radio-drama scene with several voices and a punchline: the new saffron mustard. Cailler Dark Milk and HENNIEZ work without any speech, so music and sound carry the brand on their own.

Then there is where the spots play: in the feed on a phone, often through small speakers, between other content, and on Spotify between songs. The mix has to be present instantly without voice and music masking each other.

Our part

The mix,
spot by spot.

Voice, music and effects came from the agency's production. Our part was the mix:

01

Voice up front

Where there is speech, the voice is the centre. It has to stay intelligible on a phone speaker, in every language version.

02

Music that carries

Cailler and HENNIEZ have no voice to lead. Here we mixed music and sound so they tell the brand on their own.

03

Scenes with several voices

For THOMY, narrator, princess and punchline had to be clearly separated so the little story works in 38 seconds.

04

Present in the feed

Delivered as loud, dense masters so the spots hold their own in the feed and between songs on Spotify.

FAQ

Questions about
mixing ads.

Because it plays on devices a TV or cinema mix was not made for: phone speakers, laptops, headphones on the go. Speech has to be instantly intelligible there, and the music must not bury it.

Yes. As with these Nestlé spots, we also mix productions whose recordings and music come from agencies or other studios. More on mixing and mastering.
