AVAS stands for Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. Since July 2021, EU Regulation 540/2014 requires all new electric and hybrid vehicles to generate an artificial sound at speeds below 20 km/h to warn pedestrians. Premium brands like Porsche (Taycan), BMW (Iconic Sounds) and Audi use AVAS far beyond minimum requirements as a strategic acoustic branding instrument.
