SHORT FILM / ART HOUSE

A road movie from Los Angeles:
THE SHIFT.

In May 2016, artist and director Mayk Azzato shot "THE SHIFT" in the hills of Beverly Hills, an art house road movie as a short film. Toni Garrn plays the lead and co-wrote the script, her first short film. Mayk commissioned us directly: we created the music and sound design, rescued the set sound and mixed the film.

The challenge

Strong images,
difficult set sound.

An art house film lives on mood. THE SHIFT combines art and lifestyle with a story whose ending stays open. How it ends is up to each viewer, and the sound has to leave room for that.

The sound from the set, however, was in poor shape. Before we could even start mixing, dialogue and atmospheres had to be restored and cleaned.

Our part

From set sound
to the finished film.

Mayk commissioned us directly. We created the sound of the film in four parts:

01

Restoring and cleaning the set sound

Noise removed, dialogue cleaned and prepared until it holds up in the film.

02

Music

The music for the film, carrying the mood of the images.

03

Sound design

Atmospheres and sounds for the scenes, so the images get room you can hear.

04

Mixing

Dialogue, music and sound design mixed into the finished film.
