Two weeks. One feature film.
Dolby Atmos.
Yvonne Pferrer and Jeremy Gruber filmed their 6-month camper journey through South America themselves — complete with microphone defects, unusable recordings, and the raw audio of a real adventure. Campera Media took on the complete audio post-production in just two weeks: from intensive dialogue restoration through sound design and Foley to the final Dolby Atmos mix, finalized together with Stefan Heger at toruspost in Cologne.
Self-filmed, raw audio —
delivered in 2 weeks.
YABADU is a travel documentary filmed entirely by its two protagonists, Yvonne Pferrer and Jeremy Gruber — 6 months through South America, without a professional sound team. The result: microphone defects, clipping, unusable recordings. Entire scenes whose audio was simply beyond use. The central challenge was not just the volume of sound work for a feature-length film — but the extensive dialogue restoration required, under extreme time pressure.
In addition, every scene needed exactly the right acoustic atmosphere (atmos) to support the visual magic of YABADU's imagery without ever appearing artificial or put on. The cinema sound design had to be subtle enough to leave room for the actors, but powerful enough to press the audience into their cinema seats in the magical and dramatic moments of the film.
From a broken microphone
to Dolby Atmos.
In order to meet the high demands of cinema distribution, we at Campera Media divided our work into four dedicated phases of film scoring:
Dialogue Restoration & Editing
The first and most intensive step: the protagonists' self-recorded raw material contained numerous defective recordings, microphone issues, and completely unusable passages. Using professional restoration tools, noise was removed, frequency gaps were repaired, and recordings were reconstructed — while preserving the authentic documentary character of the film.
Foley & Atmospheres
Since the original sound on set often only captures dialogue, the physical world had to be recreated. In our foley studio, we scored every footstep, every rustle of clothing, and every touch of props synchronously with the picture. Combined with multi-layered background atmospheres (forest noise, city noise), we brought the scenes to life acoustically.
Sound Design & Music Integration
Magical and supernatural moments received their acoustic identity through our specific cinema sound design. At the same time, the film music delivered by the film composer was embedded in the mix in such a way that music and sound effects complement each other and carry emotional highlights together instead of fighting over frequencies.
Dolby Atmos Final Mix at toruspost Cologne
The finale was the Dolby Atmos mix, finalized on the basis of Stefan Heger's preparatory work at toruspost GmbH in Cologne — the first certified Dolby Atmos Cinema Studio in NRW. Dialogue locked in the center, soundscapes of South American landscapes from every direction, music overhead: a fully immersive cinema audio experience.
Cinema quality in two weeks —
including Dolby Atmos.
The complete audio post-production for "YABADU" shows how essential a dedicated and professional sound editing is for the emotional impact of a feature film. The interplay of crystal-clear dialogues, hyper-realistic foley, and an enveloping surround mix lets the viewers forget that they are sitting in a cinema auditorium.
The collaboration with Stefan Heger and the finalization at toruspost — one of Germany's most respected film sound studios, with credits including How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast), Contra, Catweazle, and Der Nachname (dir. Sönke Wortmann) — ensured cinema-grade standards throughout.
"In film, the sound makes up 50 percent of the experience – in the cinema, it feels like even more. Our goal with YABADU was to create an acoustic world that is so detailed and deep that it completely encloses the viewer. From the quietest breath in the dialogue edit to the massive surround finale."

Questions about
Audio Post-Production.
A full film sound edit includes dialogue editing (cleaning the original set sound), ADR (dubbing in the studio), foley (sound effects artist), complex atmospheric sound design, the seamless embedding of the composed film music, as well as the final re-recording mix (usually in Surround or Dolby Atmos).
On set, usually only the dialogue is recorded cleanly, while ambient noises are often too quiet or unusable due to interference (like camera hum). Foley brings physical reality back into the film: Every footstep, every creak of a door, and every rustle of clothing is subsequently recorded in the studio synchronously with the picture to make the world tangible for the viewer.
A stereo mix is classically limited to two channels (Left/Right) for televisions, laptops, or headphones. A cinema surround mix (e.g., 5.1 or 7.1) deliberately uses multiple speakers in the room to create a 360-degree soundscape. Dialogues come firmly from the center of the screen, while music and sound effects literally envelop the viewer.
